Spark plug reading

Since I cant find my spark plug guide I'd figured I ask here.

I changed the plugs in my RS yesterday and 7 of the plugs were all black except the insulator, which was half brown half white and some had deposits on them. The #8 plug was oil soaked.

Also too now the car is running rough.. Great time to make sure all the wires are attached securly and to ohm them out..

If it isnt one thing it is another..

Oh it is a 90 RS 305 TBI A4 timing set to 6* with 185k

When my oldest daughter had a TBI Trans Am hers done the same way on #8 and what I found out was the intake gasket was leaking. I replaced it and all was well.

Thanks DM.. I already replaced the intake gasket earlier in the year.

I know that the valve guides/seals are shot.

Black soot on the threaded metal part of the plug with a "colored" porcelin is ok.
when the deposits get too bad or the gap opens up, its time to replace 'em.
Black or silver peppered porcelins or damages porcelins is bad.

Make sure the plug heat range is correct, and the gap is stock. If you already know you have loose valve guides, you should already know why the #8 is oil soaked. You might be able to "cheat" and install a hotter plug in that cylinder.
