Damper Differences

Two '86 305s. One carb and one TPI. Are they suppose to have different dampers (and timing tabs). I currently have been looking at these engines and notice different dampers and the timing tabs are located in differently locations. The timing marks on the dampers are also different in respect the the key slot. The one on the carb engine looks the same as my '90 TBI setup. Do TPI engines use an alternate damper to the others?

Youre right, they are different. Its not necessarily the TPI though, some older GM's have had the tab where it is on the TPI, its just that the location on the carbed setup would be impossible to read on a TPI car due to the throttle body inlet location. I wasnt aware the TBI was the same as the carb setup, thanks now I know

So when you buy an aftermarket which way is it marked? They don't say from what I have seen listed.
