How big can the cam go on a smog era 350?
I've got a 75 chevy 350 from a truck that has the 883 heads, crappy smog intake and a quadrajet. It of course also has hydraulic flat tappet cam.
This engine is being used w/a 3500 stall and is a pure drag race car (streetability not an issue).
How big of a cam can I get away with to get the most power out of this setup? I know the heads/intake will really limit me but I am flat broke now so need to make do with what I got now. Any suggestions?

As long as the heads have not been machined for more lift, the amount of valve lift the cam has will be the limiting factor.
Keep it under about .460" (valve lift) or so and you will be ok.

This Isky 278H Mega cam should work well for ya.
you can check it out at Summit. the part number is 201278.
Don;t be fooled by the modest .450" valve lift. this cam smokes. See if you can't start prepping some large valve home ported 305 heads to swap onto your budget 350.
The engine will love the increased compression and flow.
This cam will like the 3500stall, open headers and a high rise dual plane manifold. it will like a high rear gear ratio. 4.10's is just right. Any of the stock diameter drop on replacement performance valve springs will work with this cam.
Isky 235D Comp 981 isky 205D Edelbrock 5703
Don't use the Kmotion springs, they break real easy.
This is about as big of a cam as I'd go with on a motor like yours.
