new coolant temp. gauge problem
thanks for everyone who helped me before, but just when things seemed fine for a while, this problem arose not too much later after. this time the gauge pegs when i start the car, and if i really give the cluster a good banging the needle will drop to the appropriate reading. for some reason the check engine soon light will come on giving me a code of 15. why is it that the gauge will peg upon starting the car, and go back to reading normally when i whack it? i still think that possibly i forgot to replace a ground after installing the manifold. can anyone shine some light on this for me?

The gauge is designed to peg during startup. It's done by the same wiring that makes a temp idiot light come on when the key is in Start.
It is not normal for it to peg. Pop your cluster bezel off (about 10 or 12 little Torx screws) and then the window (about 6 7mm ones) and see if the gauge pointer is bent or something to where it rides up over the end-scale stop instead of just coming to rest against it. You might be able to bend it, or it might have some foreign matter making it sticky.
Code 15 is the CTS not showing a sufficiently high coolant temp (130° or some such) within like 10 minutes of running. Ususally it's caused by a broken wire or bad connection, which can include the ground lug up there by the water outlet.
