350 ppm of Hydrocarbons to pass..emission help

Limit Reading Result
HC ppm 108 435 FAIL
CO % .60 .33 PASS
NO ppm 1161 410 PASS

@1497 RPM -valid
Dilution - valid

AIR Injection PASS
EGRsystem PASS
PCV PASS
Catalytic Converter PASS
Fuel Evap system PASS
TAC N/A
Gas Cap PASS

Visual Inspection FAIL = condensation is coming out of the pipes..I still have run it longer to see if its really coolant

The catalytic hasnt been changed in 3 yrs or longer and the car was tested almost "just started up in the morning"cold.
Would a higher temp thermostat help out and/or a catalytic converter??

Im also getting a Idle Speed Control circuit error but since the test is not on idle I dont think this is a problem..

car is an 86 Cadillac 4.1 liter

Hey Daz..I don't belive they ran it cold...that could be the whole problem.

And they failed it for condensation out the pipe?? WTF kind of test do they do there?

Almost every car sitting in a stall with the engine running will produce some sort of water out the pipe, its called hot air in cool pipes..

You can hide death with a new cat, so maybe thats in order.

The car should be fully warmed up before it goes in for emissions testings. The cat needs to be at a certain temperature before it can start doing it's job.

I passed emissions right after I got a brand new catalytic converter. The car was tested pretty cold as well.
