Your TV cable needs readjustment. It controls line pressure in the tranny for shift points. Over time it comes out of adjustment. Go to the tranny board and look at similar posts and follow transfixleo's method.

Okie,

You may have a problem with the third gear planetary gearset band, servo, valving, or overrunning clutch. In any case, you're probably going to have to open the transmission to find where the problem lies.

at wide open the cable is pulled all the way anyway so what would make someone think that a high rpm shift is due to that. likely you are having a problem with the servo which can cause this or a valve body problem. if the shift is begining at below 5k and takes until 5300, then there is probably a problem in the direct clutch or fluid control the the band. if the 2-4 band isn't releasing properly, it will take longer for 3rd to engage.

I didn't think tranny questions came up on this board. Here is how to set the TV: To adjust the TV Cable skip the book method and do this: Press the D button on the adjuster and loosen the cable setting. Now, have someone floor the gas pedal while you check to see if the throttle plate is open all the way. Usually they are off a little and will wiggle. Do whatever you have to do to get it open solid. Now, with the pedal still floored, press the D button and pull the cable casing (the black tube) back as hard as you can and release the button. You now have the engine, tranny and gas pedal all in sync at WOT. Mark the cable so if for some reason it gets moved you can know where to put it again. The problem with the 'self adjust method' is that it bends things and puts them permanently out of whack. It is also the full TV setting, which is theoretically what the GM method does.

That being said it is most likely that the 3/4 pack is on the way out. This is a common weak point on these. Once IN 3rd does it hold? Is the oil OK? If you answered yes to both then consider installing a TransGo Reprogramming Kit.

Oh, by the way, where did the cutaway picture of the TH350 Come from?
