Crank Timing gear Removale??

Crank Timing gear Removale??
On my 91 305 i need help removing the crankshaft timing gear.....i got the tool at autozonr to pull it......but i think i need another tool...something like a balljoint puller.....anyone know what i mean...cause the tool i got i guess is for gears that have the taps in the gear..min has no taps for the tool to go into...please help

You need the kind that has "jaws", like a 2-jaw or 3-jaw puller. Don't forget to put a bolt in the snout of the crank so you don't fornicate the threads.

Sounds like they gave you a Harmonic Balancer puller. You need one of those above mentioned jaw-type pullers for the gear. If the gear is not being reused and you can get enough room, I have removed them with two prybars successfully as well - evenly applying pressure to the back side of the gear on opposite sides and working it off slowly. The jaw-type pullers work the best though.

I used a 3 jaw puller to remove mine this past weekend. 3 is alot easier than 2. Came right off.
