Quick response needed about distibutor gears...
My block is an 86 LG4 with the stock cam.
I ordered a Crane Cams model 2050 cam.
I have an 87 TPI unit, 87 TPI heads, and 87 TPI distributor.
I was told that the distributor gears are different for roller motors.
Mine is a non-roller motor and I believe the 87 TPI is a roller one.
I ordered a new gear to put on the 87 TPI distributor, since I sold my old distributor.
Is the information I got correct?
Thanks.

Hydraulic roller cams are usually made out of the same material as flat tappet cams. So your stock dist gear will be fine.
{edit} I just re-read your post... if you have a 86 block, a factory type hydraulic roller will not work in it. You either have to use the style of roller cam that all the rest of us had been using for decades before the factories finally wised up, now referred to as a "retrofit" roller cam, or use a flat tappet one. The Crane 2050 is a regular flat tappet cam, so you don't have to worry about your dist gear with it either.

So, you are saying that the gear on my 87 distibutor, which I haven't installed yet, will work with both my stock cam and the Crane Cam?
Is it just the material that the dist. gear is made of that is different, or is there a difference in the teeth or angles?
I don't want to damage the motor and at the same time I don't want to have to spend money on the new gear if I don't have to.
Thanks

Angles are the same on all small blocks. Just the material can be different.
