What is the "proper" way to set roller rocker arms.

I want to know how to set these the correct way so that it is right the first time. Am I correct in assuming that I need to set them when they are at the top (valve closed)? That would mean that the lifter is on the backside of the lobe at that point and that would be where you set it to zero lash, right? Or is that wrong?

Someone please shed some light on this misunderstood subject.

Set them exactly as you would any other type. No difference.

Sure. I usually set them with the motor running, but this is a brand new motor and Id rather set them "dry" and get it right the first time (or at least pretty close).
Yeah, normally I just back the nut off untill it starts to clatter, then tighten it back till it stops. Then, another 1/4 turn.

Now, how is it done without the motor running?

See answer #1.

The same as you would do ball fulcrum rockers: tighten the nut until the plunger in the lifter starts to depress, then ½ turn (or whatever other preload you prefer).
