Common problems with 1991 5.7 liter engines
Hello, I used to own a 1987 Camaro. I'm thinking about getting another one and I'm leaning more towards a 1991-92 Z-28. I found a 1991 Z-28 with a 5.7 liter with 155,000 miles on it for $3,900. I haven't seen the car in person, just in pictures, but the body looks to be in really good shape. My question is, what kind of problems are common with the 5.7 liter engines with that many miles? What about any other non engine problems? I would hate to get the car and wind up with a lot of problems on my hands. Assuming the body is in good shape does $3,900 sound like a good deal?

I would say the rear main seal is an aggrivating one. Granted, my 91 is a 305 but that was the first thing that really went. Damn thing smoked like a freight train from all the oil hitt the y-pipe. I

Yeah, I had that problem too. But that one piece rear main blew wide open. It was either park it, or fix it. So I fixed it with a 350
Not to mention they are harder to replace than the 2 piece.

Gauges quit working (correctly). If you do a search, you'll find that it is very common for the tach to be broken, actually it reads several thousand rpm off. And unfortunately, the gauge cluster is one piece. Oh yea, my temp gauge is also 20* off.
