Mysterybox on firewall

I have been trying to figure out what this box is for and have not yet been able to get an idea.. Hopeing someone here has seen it and knows what it is for and where it plugs in.. the plastic hardline on it does not go anywhere, and the vacuum hose on it does not go anywhere.. if someone has it on thier car and can post a picture of where the things hook up and what it is for it would be very helpful.

thanx

It's a vacuum reservoir. It only has one line going to it. There should be a check valve between the engine and the tee that goes to it and the accessories that are vacuum powered.

also there are 2 lines coming out of it.. there is a har plastic line comeing from the top of the side, and then below that 1 inch or so that is an actual rubber vacuum line. So i found the one that has the T fitting in it on the 84, to where it goines to the vacuum port, and then on.. which was the rubber hose... now.. the hard plastic line that goes from the top side of it accross the top of the firewall to the passenger side and into the harness.. What is that line for?!?!

Okay, I'll admit it, I'm over my head. My car is an '86 under the hood, which has the globe style reservoir under the fender.

Hopefully someone with more direct experience can respond.

yea i remember the globe. i had one in my 80' that was on the passenger side of the firewall.. had one anyhow before the thing imploded on me one cold winter day... anyhow i hope someone knows what that thing might be for... i know it is for vacuum.. just wish i knew for what...

*edit* Just looked through the haynes manual and it shows the box in question on the Carbed modeled cars only.. the Fuel injected ones did not have it. Although there was no reference to what the box did at all....

yep. they do appear to work.. although after i had my stereo installed they did not work quite right after that. but that was almost a year after i had the car and prior it was workin fine.. and it was still al disconnected..

although i do not have a high heater fan speed... although that is still a thought.. perhaps it is for that. will keep it in mind.. still accepting possibilities though...
