AC Change their PF1218 Filter?

I changed the oil the other day and knoticed the PF1218 filter I had was an inch shorter then the older PF1218 I had on the car before. Any idea if this is a ner version or a really old one I picked up at Autozone? Both filters and boxes had 1218 on them.

I picked one up 2 days ago. I think it's the new version. Here are some pictures. The holes are smaller, but there's more. It's shorter. The construction looks cheaper.

In the picture, the left is the original, the right is the new one. If you look in the old one you see a metal tube with perforations in it for oil flow. The new one is the bare filter material with some small bands. You can see the full material. I can't say if this is better or worse, but it does seem to be small.er

Another picture...

I think I'm done with the new filter style until further tests are done. Looks like I'll be going to NAPA or independent stores for Wix instead of Autozone or Pep Boy's for AC.

the "new" piece of **** acdelco looks exactly like the stp version sold at the zone. hold them side by side and you will see the similarities right off the back. only things different are the shade of blue the filter is painted and the sitcker adheared to it.

it seems to be a cheaper pos filter which i will no longer buy. mobil 1 filter for me.

I talked with AC Delco about this when I noticed the change when I went to change mine. GM claimed that it was identical in function to the old one...just updated...I believe they said it had a new media in it too

I think updated means 'cost reduced'...probably via a manufacturer change. I'm sure the new manufacturer probably makes it to very controlled specs...but I determined I probably won't buy another.

Just remember when shopping for a new brand...more expensive doesn't always mean better....just prettier w/better marketing!

I'll probably go to a Pure1 filter from now on.
