Will JBweld really work on an aluminum manifold?

I've been wanting some time to put my action+ back into action. It's got a hairline crack next to the water outlet and when you rev up the engine it leaks antifreeze. Ive tryed aluminum seal but it dident work, Ive heard theres some welding rod for aluminum but I cant get any localy and if I was to order it I would have to get a bulk. A pack of the stuff is as much as a new manifold . IMO jbweld is the ony option but I havent has any luck with the stuff on other items. I hate to waste an otherwise good manifold.

2nd manifold swap of the day if jbweld should work so please reply.

I'm not sure if it would work, but what about Permatex. My brother put that on my valve cover gaskets and around my thermostat.

Go ahead and use it. You've got nothing to lose but a set of gaskets and your time.

Clean the surfaces very, very well before you try it or it won't stick. I like brake cleaner - a good solvent and it evaporates quickly and cleanly.

I imagine the permatex would probably work, but why "band-aid" when you could fix it right for just a little more dough? I would take it to a local welding shop and have them TIG weld the crack. Chances are they will only charge you $10 or $15 maybe even less. Plus it will be a professional weld.

Doing this will keep you from worrying about the possibility of blowing out the permatex. That might never happen, but with it fixed the right way is good peace of mind and one less thing to worry about.

Thanks for the replys guys!
I Jb welded it, both sides and sanded the outside down then painted it with 1406 aluminum paint. It looks real nice except for the little cottage cheese spot from the JB.
I pulled off the old manifold "82 firbird LG4" and compared the two. Man did GM make a ****up with that one. The l69manifold that was on my camaro was far supereior than the LG4 except the LG4 is aluminum and the L69 was cast. But the action+ will be on tomorrow and I can toss the adaptor plate .

Side note: I took off the stealth manifold on my truck and replaced it with an Xcellerator today.
That sucker pulls until 7200k now !
This might give ya cowl guys another option, the stealth petered out at 6400.
Also I tryed the stealth halfA$$ on the bird and the air cleaner would not clear the hood. This is the sole reason I got a cowl for my camaro, I dont know how you guys did this with a stock hood but more power to you.
Ok so I'll have the action+ bolted down tomorrow and running. I'll let you all know if it worked.
Thanks again!

shouldn't be hard or very costly to have welded. any more about every one has a tig or mig welder set up that could fix it for you and it'd be better than taking a chance on the jb not working.

Well I finaly got done about an hour ago and went for a long drive. The JBweld held great but unfourtanetly I needed new valve cover gaskets and since I hate the standard bolts on the valve covers I got some Y bolts and they make life soooooo much easyer.

As far as the swap is concerned I dident gain squat over the stock manifold/adapter plate, Its just a little more peppy on the bottem.
IMO this swap wasent worth the time/money, but it does look nice.

EDIT: I checked the vac and whoo gained 1 whole inch of vac at idle for a grand total of 12/13 in nutral, in gear/550/600rpm 7/8.
I guess i'll recoup lost money with the gas I'll save in 3 years. lol.

There's a thing on exhaust manifold repair in this month's issue of Super Chevy (what a rag!). It's made by "RestoMotive Laboratories", and it's called the "Manifold Restoration Kit". Like I said, it's for exhaust manifolds, but they might have something for aluminum. I think your manifold is aluminum, I don't remember. Anyways, you can read about it on www.por15.com.
