Is this normal?

Just got my camaro 2 days ago. damn i love it. But i have a few concerns/questions. First i seem to notice that the fuel gauge is not very reliable. Is this normal? I mean i put 15 bucks (in change) of 92 octane in her. And like 10 minutes later im on E. How do i fix this. 2nd when im crusin and i have the A/C on i can just see the temp gauge fly above the scale. And when i stop you can hear the coolant boiling. How do i fix this? And 3rd my gauge on the bottom right, the oil pressure i think, i am not sure. But it doesent move not at all. How do i fix this. Thanks Guys. Sorry its so long, im new. Thanks A lot. Bobby.

Welcome, new 3gener.

1. Your fuel gauge sending unit is shot, you may need a whole new fuel pump.

2. sounds like your head gaskets are going, is your car over heating, if it is it's shot. Sounds like to me the gaskets are gone.
3. you need a new oil pressure sending unit, most likely, or it could be as simple as a wire not connected to the gauge.

Hint: Pop the hood and check for any wires that have tape on them, or that are fraid. also in the morning or sometime run the car in your drive way for about 20 minutes with the hood open, watch for any coolant leaking, check and make sure your hoses are not leaking and also that over heating problem may be a broken thermostat, you may want to check that too. also check you coolant level if you have no coolant yoyu know it's leaking. check your oil too.

thats about all i can think of, if you have anymore questions, just ask.

Good Luck,
Rob

overheating usually isn't caused by a busted head gasket. if he dad have a busted head gasket then he would probably be spewing out oil too. check to see if your electric fans are coming on. Since you said this occurs when the a/c is on, it sounds like maybe it's an electric fan problem.

First off: what kind of car is it exactly? what year? what motor? the variations in those things determine what to look at for each of those problems.

I agree with iroc5speed, one or more of your fans is not coming on. As for the gauges, check the wires at the senders for each first, then at the gauges. You wouldn't be happy if you spend the time and money to put in new stuff you don't need.

Ok guys, i printed out this page and took it along with my car to my shop teacher at school. As for overheating, he said my thermostat is probaly going bad so we are going to replace it with 190 degress one. And also we pressure tested my radiator and foung that my radiator cap is not holding pressure. So we are replacing thoses two things and also flushing out the entire coolant system. As for the fuel gauge, he said i need to replace the sensor in the tank, so we diecided to just replace the whole fuel pump and all the fuel lines. And for the oil gauge, we need to still check all the wires and such so no soloution there yet. But, Thanks A lot guys for your help.

PS. I think my car is just a plain Camaro. A 1988 TBI, but i am not sure.
