Cross-fire injection engines

I recently bought a 1983 Camaro Z28. It has a Cross-fire injection engine under the hood, my problem is, I don't know the first thing about the engine. I have tried looking for manuals on them but I have found nothing. I do know that it was sort of a rare car to have that type of engine in it. Does anyone own one of these cars or engines or know anything about them? I want to learn more about the engine (it needs an overhaul), so if anyone could help me out or point me in the direction of finding some literature on it, I would greatly appreciate it! Thanks!

First of all buy this. It is the best source of info for your car.

Well worth even the $50. It is much better than any other shop manual.

Also, do searches on this board. It has a wealth of information about crossfire engines.

By the way, if it is the stock motor, it is not a 350, but a 305. I am guessing that if it is a crossfire car it is a stock motor.

Re: Cross-fire injection engines

I just bought a 1983 z28 Cross Fire Injection camaro with only 51,000 miles about 3 months ago. I don't know a whole lot about the cross fire system but I can try to help as much as I can. What are you wanting to know?

Maybe you can help me. I have this really funky interior in my car it says Camaro all over it. I wanted to know how rare it is to have this in my car.

That's a nice one Sid. I bought mine last year, I really wanted a red one like yours, but ended up with a white one. Those seats are the Lear Siegler Conteur seats, they were an option.

Here's my Crossfire at Thirdgen Fest.

BTW, where in Illinois are you from?

First thing first, fix the vacuum leaks. The intake is a two piece and the top plate is notorious for leaks. Tighten all of the bolts on the intake and TB's.

Re: Cross-fire injection engines

Thank you.. The car has sat for a long time and didn't get driven much. The person I bought it from was the 2nd
owner and she bought it in 1985. It has sat for a least 20 years she said.

WOW! yours looks very good. Did you repaint yours, or is that original paint? So this thirdgen fest sounds so cool where is it located at?

I live in Benton IL

Search the site for info on Thirdgen fest. It's in Crete.

Paint is original, but I've put a ton of effort into the car.

I'll tellya though, yours is EXACTLY what I was looking for. Too bad you're not closer, maybe we could work a swap deal.

Re: Cross-fire injection engines

I must say Sid,

Yours is a VERY nice car.

I don't know a lot about crossfire engines, but I have heard it is very important to keep the fuel pressure and flow rates balanced between the different throttle bodies.

The EGR also seems to be a common problem with those cars.
