To the above post about SoCal, the air has improved from when the time when they were starting checks, it used to be that during the summer there were at least 2 smog alerts a month, you could hardly breathe and the air was very definitely brown no matter where you were at. It was really good in the early-mid 90's, but has since gotten worse since there are so many more people, they are driving alot more, and all the big trucks and SUV's are making things worse again. Its still not anywhere as bad as it was however. The emissions stuff does help, but to me a few cars sliding outside the rules (most all hot rodders) are ok because they keep their cars running pretty good for the most part anyway. Unfortunately the government cant handle that, its all or nothing, and given the choice I'd choose nothing because most of these things have become a ripoff of the consumer. EPA 'emissions credits' really tick me off.

We've always had smog tests in NYC and the outlying counties, but two years ago the DMV made it so inspection shops have to buy this new equiptment including a dyno and a camera pointed at the test area that the DMV in albany can turn on at any time. The equiptment is really expensive and if the shop get's caught they have a lot to lose. It's near impossible to get someone to fudge the test for you, but if you know the right people you can find a shop that has a problem with pigeons perching in front of the camera. Pretty annoying when everyone and their grandmother is driving an SUV getting 12MPG.

I live in tampa, FL. And I know we have no emissions. I'm pretty sure the rest of the state doesn't either. I'm glad considering i have a hollow cat, no muffler, and no smog pump n-e more. :-)

The only places that I know of in Texas that sniff your pipe is in the houstion, san antino, and dallas fort worth areas they don't do the sniffer test in north east texas, however they are talking about it go to another county or at least out of the houstion area and they won't give you a test

You just have to know people.

In Vermont they do a visual but no sniffer. The "visual" means they look for a cat. Not once have I ever popped my hood. There's also a local guy that just asks me if I have it and takes my word.

In the People's Republik of Massachussetts, it's not quite so easy, but there's always a way. 87TPI420, if your Florida deal doesn't work out, send me an email. There's a guy around western MA that will take $60 and hand you a sticker. My friend gets his motor home done through him every year.

It's coming.

Some bored policy thug at the EPA is surfing on the net in his Washingon D.C. office, checks out this website and stumbles onto this topic. Visions of promotions dance behind his beady eyes as he prepares an administrative ruling targeting the last free states in the People's Republic of Amerika.

Here on Oahu, I've never had an emission test. We have no smog laws here. I removed the cat from my Buick with no problems. I still have the cat on the Z-28 but it may be coming off soon. BTW, how would I go about removing the emission parts from the Z-28(smog pump,AIR parts, etc.)
