Crane Gold vs. Comp Pro Magnum roller rockers

Which one would you used and why?

Is there a clearcut winner or is it a Mini-ram vs. Superam type discussion which both work good in their intended applications?

Does either one give up reliabilty for all out racing gains?

Would you notice any power gains from one vs the other if installed in the same engine?

FWIW, I plan to choose one for a 383 AFR Mini-ram engine pushing 450h.p N/A and which I intend to drive daily.

Which one fits the bill?

BTW, The Crane Gold are cheaper than the Pro-Magnums when comparing 1.5 3/8 non-self aligned applications.

The Crane is aluminum, the Comp is steel. Which would you rather have for a loaded moving part?

You probably really need 1.6s for the application you mention. The more lift you can get, the better.

I second the above. Aluminum's fatigue life just wouldn't cut it for me unless I wasn't going to run it much at all (race only).

Cost wise the Crane's are cheaper. Unless you're building a full race engine, Crane Energizers are good enough. They're built the same way the Golds are but have a smaller trunion. The Crane Blazer rockers are cast aluminum and I wouldn't even recommend them unless you're on a tight budget and Energizers are only slightly more and a lot better.

The Comp Pro magnums are better than the Golds but also cost more. Although they feel heavier, they actually have 5% less weight forcing down on the valve. Because of the design the trunion is larger than on the Golds. Comp guarentees them for life against breakage and will rebuild them if needed.

I now have a set of Pro Magnums on my race engine.

The Crane's weren't even good enough for Chevrolet Powertrain engineers for use in the stock LT4 engines - they were redesigned and strengthened for the Chevys. The Comps are chrome-moly steel, and are effectively lighter in the reciprocating mass areas - where it counts.

They are also only about $40.00 CHEAPER than the Crane aluminums, depending on how well you shop (PAW). Why not save money and get a better rocker?
