Loose steering column

Ok. After my last autocross, my steering column started to wobble. It moves only a little bit up and down at an angle. It's starting to worry me, because I don't want my steering column to come off on me. Anyone know of any tech articles on how to rebuild the column? Are there kits for it and approximateley how much should one run me? How hard is the job and about how much time does it take?

I had the same thing happen to me, and I think it was right after an autocross too. Anyway what you've got is a common problem with Chevy tilt steering columns. There are 4 bolts that tend to back out making the whole thing loose. It's kind of a pain in the butt to take the whole thing apart but if you can tighten at least 2 of the four bolts and get some loctite on them you'll have your problem solved.

I beleive that there is a tech article for it and if you follow it by the letter it's right on the money. Set aside an entire evening for this project and make sure that you have all the proper tools before you begin if you don't have a second car for running to the parts store.

I had the same thing happen to me. I was short on time, so I took it to a guy who does this in his spare time. Costed 150.00 canadian and about 1-1/2 to 2 hrs. He locktighted the bolts and guaranteed they wouldn't come loose. Turns out the tools needed for the job cost a little over 100.00 canadian anyway, for a one time job. BTW, make sure, if you do it yourself, that you don't pull all 4 bolts out at the same time to locktight them. there is a plate that will fall off the back and cause you strife.
Have fun! Jeff
