alternator voltage
i have an alternator from a different vehicle on the 350 i out in my Z28. ive been watching the voltage guage and one day it was at about 12.5 alday long. then the next day and still to this day, 3 days later, it reads at about 14.5-15 and stays in that range. it doesnt bouce around suddendly but changes whenever i go to drive the car. my interior lights definitly seem a tad brighter but i also havent been driving the car much in the past month.
whats the max voltage it should be at? is my alternator bad? and will it fry my brand new battery?
thanks

The alternator gauge on my 94 Regal does the same thing. It sits at about 14.5 Had it for about 3 months now. It did it since I got it so I assume it did it before, so it shouldnt be a problem.
GM draws the line at 17 volts IIRC. At that point you will get an SES light. The condition will be stated as over-voltage.
However, going from my experience, I wouldnt worry about it.
Another possible problem is that your battery could be dead already, and the alternator is trying to get it up to par. Easy way to check this is to turn the ignition to run and see where the needle is. If it is around 12, then the batt is ok. If not, its already toats.
