Tech inspection at the drags
Does anyone know what is involed at tech inspection at the dragsrtip? All they said was that the follow NHRA rules. This is just a test and tune session. Thanks!

I see you are from chicago so heres the scoop...I went to byron last weekend and didnt even have to open my hood, Be prepared for a FULL inspection if you go to Rt. 66. They will give your car the equilivant of a prostate exam! My advice, go to byron...you'll get more runs and not have to worry about tech, as long as your car is in okay shape.

All cars that race must be considered safe. The majority of all the street cars are fine but there's little things you may not be aware of that tech may find.
Go the the Calgary Drag Racing Assiciation web page and click on the Tech Inspect button. You can also look at the Secret Street page. That should cover everything you need to know to race at an NHRA track.

Not cool! I am running a 66 this weekend! I can't think of what they might check, the car is basiclly stock, The only think is maybe the battery hold down. It's a over sized battery so it doesn't fit the tray. The car is in great shape, I plan checking the luggs and stuff like that. How far is Byron? I live near you, Wheaton.

Bungie cords won't pass at our track but some steel mechanics wire will pass a temporary fix.
If the battery is too big for the tray mack a hold down. A piece of flat bar heavy enough so that it doesn't bent easily (3/16 - 1/4" thick). About 1" wide and long enough to go right across the battery. Drill some holes in it for threaded rod (redi-rod). Bolt the threaded rod to the tray and sucure the battery so that to doesn't move when you grab it and shake it.

A few years back they only wanted the yellow cord "tow rope" now they want steel hold downs.
You will not be able to race unless you get that fixed. A hold down is cheap but if the track jock is in a bad mood a big battery wont fly. Id like to know how a battery will fall out going in a straight line? More likely it will fall out on the way to the track. But like mentioned its a cheap fix just make it look like the battery fits.

Hey, uh, that battery isn't half-in/half-out of the tray indentation, is it? I've heard you can crack the bottom of a battery that way... put a flat plate down across the indentation, then make your hold-down.
