What recommended engine parts for 350-400 horse.
I want to build an engine that makes about 350 horse, maybe a little more. I am getting the Edelbrock Performer RPM heads, and the Edelbrock Pro-Flo TPI intake setup that includes a larger base and runners, but the stock plenum is still used, however i will be port matching everything. The block will be a 4 bolt main with 10:1 compression pistons. What cam should i get. I would like to get one of the LPE cams, like the 211 or 219, but which one, and should i get 1.6 rockers? What about a throttle body, should i get a 52 mm. What size is the stock one? I want it to get decent gas mileage, that is why i am not going to extreme, just want a powerful engine that doesn't use a whole lot of gas.

$
the zz4 crate costs about 3700 dollars, i would still need to buy a throttle body and a tpi intake set-up, plus the heads are not egr capatible, they don't have hte exhaust cross-over, at least i don't think they do.
Even if i sold the intake that it comes with it would still cost me like 4500 dollars. I can build the same motor, except for the mild forged crank for 3500 dollars. I am a poor college student, so that extra 1000 dollars i could spend on the transmission.

So what about the throttle body, i am thinking the 52 mm.
And what about the cam, the 211 or 219, they only difference is that the 211 cam:
211/219 .530/.560 w 1.6 rocker 112 CL
219 cam:
219/219 .560/.560 w 1.6 rocker 112 CL S
The 219 cam has a little more to the intake side, plus both of these numbers are with 1.6 rockers. Would i want 1.5's instead.

I have the 219/219 cam in my car. With L98 ported aluminum heads, perfromer RPM intake , and 1.6 roller rockers it makes about 400hp and sounds stock.
If the valve prings can handle the lift, go with 1.6 rockers.

I base the 400hp on the weight of the car and what it ran. It ran 12.4 at 113.xx at 3550lb, which is 399hp. It may have a bit more becuase the car is geared a little low and I don't lock up the converter, but I don't like to exagerate the "what if I did this" scenarios (like the import guys do).
The newest issue of Hot Rod has an article on various vortec style heads and their dyno results - they were 395 to 405hp with a similar motor as mine.

Id suggest the Lt4 hot cam (w/ the advertised 1.6 rockers of course)for the cam, There are plenty of guys running it and vortec heads making 400hp at the crank, and the heads you have are better than the vortecs. Good Luck.
