Knock Count Question

Hey the car is coming along well. I was using the scanner on it today to see how things were coming and I got a knock count of 2..........it never went past 2 just sat there no matter where the RPM's were. It also never went back to 0 unless the car is off.

Thanks for the input
Brian

so what is your question?

in my opinion your knock count should always be zero. this is the only acceptable count.

to try and get zero knock go with a higher octane gas.this should cure it.

Its just that, a count... a running count while the key is on. Means it knocked twice for whatever reason, and never again. Not getting any knock counts whatsoever IMO means you arent on the fine line that may pull out a couple more HP. But thats just IMO.

So do you guys think there is a problem or is this normal. I know I need to adjust a rocker but the count stays at 2 it never climbs. I am going to do a road scan tonight.

Thanks
Brian

Its very normal. I get some counts just starting the engine.

The counts only increase when there is knock detected. Once the count reaches 255 it resets to 0.

Would you send me a copy of the recorded datalogging? wildkat@paonline.com

If your scanner has a knock count, then it probably also has a knock retard, or something to that extent. The knock retard gives you an idea what the computer is doing at that moment rather than just tallying up knocks like the knock count does. You might want to watch that the knock retard instead. It'll tell you if the computer is retarding the timing due to a detected detonation. If you don't see any knock retard, especially when you get on it, then you're good to go. If you do see knock retard, then you need to either retard the timing or use higher octane.
