Struggle at end of 1st gear

Okay when I have taken my car out and given it a couple quick starts from the lights I have experienced something that I am unsure of. Okay standing at the lights I floor it at much as possible taking care not to spin teh tyres. Once I am off I hammer the pedal to teh meta car strats to pull but at about 40-50 kph which is 30-35 mph the car seems to rev it's *** of but does not seem to pull hard. Feels like I am standung still and reving the engine. at about 4500 rpm the car shifts but I am unsure if I let off the gas a little or not for it to shift might have to try again. Will the car shift from 1st to 2nd at WOT or do you ahve to back off and hammer it again? Because in between the 30-40 mph range it feels like forever for it to shift and you lose time and get blown past if you were in a race. Anyoen ahve any ideas on what it could be or is it normal.

Thanks Guys

Sounds to me like you are hitting the peek of your cam. (stock?)

After your peek on the cam the car becomes dead again and you are just wasting gas.

You need to know your shift points on your car.
If you begin to lose speed at lets say 3500rmp then you need to shift right at or before 3500rpm.

I've never heard of letting off the gas in order for the tranny to shift. Keep on the gas and shift it into 2nd.

If your tranny takes a moment to shift into the next gear then you could really use a shift kit for more positive shifts.

The engine is a reconditioned unit and yes I think it is basically stock. I leave it in D and let it shift automatically so to get it to shift at 3500 I would need to get off the gas and let it shift.

Sounds like a dirty fuel filter to me. My TPI did that about a month after I first got it. If yours is not pulling like it used to then change the fuel filter, its just running out of gas!

Wish it was the fuel filter changed that 5 days ago. Thanks for the suggestion anyway.
