The tank is shaped very oddly. I can run 100 miles before the guage even moves off of FULL. Then it gets faster and faster towards the end.

While on the topic of fuel... whats the average MPG that you guys are geting? Just for a comparison to see if i'm too rich.. cuz it sure seems like it.. lol. But then again it aint meant to go cross country on a tank of fuel either...

Yes, the tank is shaped -very- oddly...

As far as MPG... I'm getting about 14 on my little 6, with no mods... lol. But my ignition is -completely and utterly shot-, so I have an excuse... (you guys should see my pickup coil... it's a joke, when the chick at Strauss handed me the new one, I was so surprized to see what it's -really- supposed to look like.. )

If you really wanna find out, disconnect the fuel lines and run the tank dry, (try and let it drip out, or run out... don't run the pump dry, it causes premature wear) then see how much it takes to top off, thats the best bet...

From what I've heard previously from people who have run their tank dry is that it's about 16-16.5 gallons... the reserve as far as the needle goes is about 3 gallons...

Im in the same ballpark as you guys. From where ive ran out a little above Empty where I now tend to fill it up at I can squeze 11.9 gallons into it "I just filled up today" My owners manual says its 16 gallons but Ive yet to get that in it.
Economy wise my over cammed lg4 was getting 22mpg city with the edelbrock now that I got a holley sitting on top Ill have to wait a week to see.

I thought something was wrong with my car for awhile, it would die in traffic when I would brake hard, turns out I was so low on gas all those times, that it uncovered the fuel pickup and died from lack of fuel.

Do you guys' gas gauges move when braking and accelerating? Mine does, I've had it move almost 3/4.
And yeah I HATE the way it stays on F for about a 100 mi. then goes down sooo fast, makes it hard to discern how much gas you actually have.

Back to the ?, I have put almost 16 gal. in mine.
I have no idea on gas mileage, about 21 or so highway, upper teens in the city.

It's gonna vary for some cars, since at some point a vacuum or pressure situation will change the volume of the tank (maybe a vent that got stuck for a bit, or expansion on a hot day).

I'm interested in those owner's manual specs though. My owner's manual says 15.5..

Before I installed my new tank, I tapped out the walls some so it could hold a bit more gas.

Yea Im curious also, I know that my camaro fills up closer to 15 gallons than my firebirds 11.9. I know theres a big weight difference between the 2 fbodys fb weighs alot more and I wonder if the fb's tank is supposedly larger page 7-4 of the owners manual says 16 gallons "82 Fb".
But this brings me to this question since I dont have the owners manual for the camaro, Is the capacity stamped anywhere like the door sticker? If so I'll stop by the storage place and take a peek for comparison. Or if anyones got thier owners manual for thier 12/85, "?86?" camaro post the capacity.
