Code 36 Problem Maf Burnoff

I have an 87 TPI car that I keep getting code 36. I have replaced both the maf relay & maf burnoff relay with still the same problem. I have checked to see if D on the maf plug itself is getting power. You can manually ground the maf burnoff relayand it does send 12 volt to the maf. If you run the car and shut it off the relay does kick on and send 12 volts out but only stays on for maybe a second or two at most. What is controling the cylce as to how long it stays on. Or could it be the oil pressure safety switch casing the problem. Is it the oil pressure switch at the back of the block near the back of the intake or is there another one. My oil pressure seems to be higher than normal. It stays pegged out at 60 at about 2000 rpm. Please somebody throw me a line I'm sinking here.

Once you get the code again, try these steps.

Leave the Diagnostic Terminal Grounded
1)Disconnect MAF Sensor Burn-Off Relay.
Probe Both 340 Ckts. (Orange wire)(E & D)
with a Test Light to Ground.
Light "ON" or "OFF"
2)Light "OFF" on one or both
Repair open in circiut that did not LIGHT.
3)Light "ON" Both
Reconnect Relay.
Disconnect MAF Sensor.
Ground Burn-Off Relay circuit Ckt 900 (Black wire)(F).
Probe MAF Sensor Harness Terminal "D" (Ckt. 994)(DK Blue wire)
with a Test Light to ground.
Light "ON" or "OFF"
4)Light "OFF"
Ckt. 900 is open, or Ckt. 994 is open/shorted to ground or
there is a faulty connection or a Faulty Burn-off Realy.
5)Light "ON"
Ckt. 900 still grounded.
Probe terminal "E" Ckt. 993 (Red Wire)(MAF Sensor) with a test
Light to ground.
Light "ON" or "OFF"
6)Light "OFF
Open Ckt. 993, Open circuit between MAF sensor & the Burn-
-Off Relay, Faulty Connection, or Faulty MAF Sensor Power
Relay.
7)Light "ON"
Disconnect Burn-Off Relay.
Ignition "ON".
Probe Ckt. 900 (Black Wire)(F) with a test Light.
Light "ON" or "OFF"
8)Light "ON"
Repair short to Voltage in Ckt. 900.
9)Light "OFF"
Faulty ECM Connection or ECM.

Code 36 can set due to a poor connection at any of the Relays or the MAF sensor, or could be caused by high resistance in the relay contacts or connections. Be sure that these connections and terminals are OK before replaceing the ECM.

Hope this helps!!!

Does the wire actually glow?

Well here's an update on my problem. The burnoff relay is working and the MAF senser does come on and glow red. I tesed the output voltage on the MAF and it's in normal ranges. So the burn off is working and the MAF itself is working but I can reset the ecm and run the car until it goes into closed loop, shut it off and back on and bam code 36.Now reading other post about code 36 it can mean other problems.

36. Burn off at mass air flow sensor OR
Problem in transmission shift OR Fault in direct ignition system OR
Missing pulses in electronic spark timing signal

I have an old GM tech1 scanner and notice something today while using it. The car has a 700r4 in it. The scanner has a function thats says FOURTH GEAR (AT). It will read yes or no under this. Well it will bounce back and forth between yes & no whilel the car is running at idle. Could this have something to do with my code 36 or do the other faults have anything to do with a TPI car. Maybe the ECM itself is not sincing the burn off actually happened and the ECM is at fault itself. Anyone have any ideas?

Did you solve your problem cause I have code-36, too. I checked everything and my burnoff-circuit is okay but my ECM throws this code everytime I start my car.
