Will a valve spring compressor work for a door hinge spring?

or vice versa? I got a new door hinge spring and need to put it in. The Roc hasn't had one as long as I've owned it, and I have to race the door when getting out of the car This thing is definitely NOT doable by hand, the spring is VERY strong, I need some type of compressor. The ones I found for GM dealers cost $65 and look like they should cost $10. I planned to get a valve spring compressor in the not so near future anyway, could I use it on this spring? Has anyone else had to do this and if so what did you use? Thanks in advance!

Transmission: sure does
All the valve spring compressors I use won't work.

I've used the correct tool and it makes the job real easy...

I would go by a body shop and see if you can borrow their tool or have them throw it in for you for a 12 pack or something.

It only takes a minute.

I bought a Steck brand tool for that and I think it was about 12 bucks or so.

I know what you are talking about. The compressor you are talking about in mainly for lawnmower engines and it looks just like the GM tool. I think it will work.

when i work on the hinge spring i do the same thing i did with my kart engines when i rebuilt them. i put the spring in a vice and compress it and then use safety wire to hold it together. i think i used 4 pieces wrapped twice around it and the spun with the safety wire plires. after it's in just cut the wire and pull it out.

I did a similar trick with the vice, except I used nylon zip ties to hold it together. Then after I got it in, i just cut the ties and pulled them out.
