cant get key into LOCK position

cant get key into LOCK position
I am installing a hurst dual gate shifter. I have everything hooked up, and I think I adjusted my column lock cable correctly, but the key wont come to the lock position. Does it matter if the battery is disconnected?
How exactly do you adjust the column lock cable?
