CC306 vs GM/Crane '847 w/ ZZ4

I have a ZZ4 and Stealth Ram in my truck and need just a tad bit more powa'. I want a cam, and was debating between the CC306 and 847. I know that these are both alot of cam for the stock aluminum L98's heads that come on the motor, but they won't be staying for long. A friend of mine keeps telling me to get a CC306, but on another board they are telling me its an old outdated lobe design, and I'd be happier with an 847. I also contemplated the 846, just to be a bit easier to handle, but then I don't want to regret going too small when i get heads. So my question is, will the 847 put the power out of reach with my stock heads? Like I said, I have a StealthRam and a 3000 stall so I am prepared to go to 6000 when I get heads (also swapping the 3.73's for 4.10's soon... I have 28 inch slicks, so I need alot of gear).

OK, well I believe that the GM847 is to big for the Stock heads, but thats just my opinion. The CC306 will work well w/out a doubt, but as you were informed it is an old cam design and there are better ones out there. I have always pressed the fact that it is not the cam size, its the design and how it works w/ everything else. Essentially I am talking about your combination of parts. For not much more than the price of those cams you could have a Custom cam made specifically for your combo....it will match perfectly. Also I think that your L98's could be worked over a good bit and you could also gain a good bit by doing that. Porting and some larger valves can go a long way for performance. What cam do you have now?

Its a stock ZZ4, as in the whole motor (therefore the ZZ4 cam). As I said, I'm not keeping these heads on the motor for long, so I'm not gonna put $1000 into them when I could buy much better heads. But at this point I am really considering the 306 because, again, I want it to make good power when I get some AFR's but I also don't want to go so big that it hurts me right now.

Any off the shelf cam suggestions that will be decent now and good with heads?

Hydraulic roller cam for the sbc. It is a comp cam under the Nitrous HP section I believe.

So this is a nitrous cam. I guess that means that it wouldn't work NA.

So these cams are for 87 and later blocks?

What would be comparable for a GEN I block? Is that what the GM part numbers are for?

They call it a Nitrous cam because it has a much longer exhaust valve duration. It will work fine on regular NA cars. Many people have proven this.

Yeah, I decided that the '847 was way too big after a little research and I decided on the '846. Its cheap, the power band is right, and it will be even better after I get some heads. Thanks for the help.
