I'm not sure, but I think there's a pressure switch or something inside the power steering motor that shuts off the A/C and turns the fans on or some such thing when the wheel is at full lock.

its not on the pump, its on the box, and its a 1983 v6 engine...but im putting another engine in it, im swapping out the 2.8 with a 5.7 i just want to know if i can get rid of that plug!

I think I was reading in a book somewhere that it was a pressure switch. As you turn the wheel, the pressure in the box increases and puts more strain on the engine. I think that switch idles up the motor so that it won't stall out. I think they were only put on 4 or 6 cylinders.

Well I have a 91 FB, 305TBI and I have a connector on the pressure hose right above the steering box. I was told that it was for the AC. I dont think it should cause any problems. Ill disconnect mine tomorrow and let you know whats going on.

alright thad be cool guy...im not going to have AC so if it does do anything to that, which i dont understand how it could...that wouldnt matter, but if it is just a reving thing for v6 motors. i dont need it cuz ill have a bigger engine....eh?

Yo White,
Are you doing the engine swap yourself??
If so ... How painful or painless is it?
Let me know.. I have a 2.8 that needs a new engine and if it's not tooo hard i'll put a bigger engine in. I'm doing it myself.

NCZ nailed it, it's a switch to raise the idle on the 'weaker' motors to keep them from stalling. You shouldn't need it with a v8... It has nothing to do with the a/c

sorry to be replying to this so late, thanks for the input on the fact that i DONT need it with the bigger engine, and Tec21-CamaroLover, its not really that big of deal, its just a nice sum of money, altho i have been lucky and so far have got most of my stuff at a very good price. but if you have the heart, and the time, and some money, go for it, its a lot of fun, and the pride of being able to say that you did it yourself, when im done, ill be able to say i basically built my car. its gonna be nice! thanks again for the input guys!!
