PRime the motor with an oil pump drive. Get all the rockers adjusted b4 starting.

Start it and keep rpm at about 2000 for 15mins. Check 4 oil leaks and water as soon as it busts off. Make sure you have good oil pressure as soon as you get it going.

Keep it running at near 2000 to breakin the cam (if it's a flat lifter type). Go out an drive it easy until you make sure that it does not have any cylinders misfiring, temp is good and no leaks. Then, you can gass it just a little in a higher gear. Run it from about 1500 to about 4000 and then coast back down. (DONT FLOOR IT). Just about half or a little more throttle. Do that about 2 or 3 times and then drive it easy for at least 200 miles around town. Change oil and hammer it. Broke in.

Go to Mobil 1 after the next oil change. About 1000 to 1500 miles.

Strait from GM:
RECOMMENDED ENGINE START-UP PROCEDURE
1. SAFETY FIRST! If the car is on the ground, be sure the emergency brake is set, the wheels
are chocked, and the transmission cannot fall into gear.
2. Be sure to check the oil level in the engine and prime the oil system
3. Run engine between 2,000 and 2,500 RPMs, with no-load on the engine for the first 30 min.
4. Adjust the distributor timing roughly by hand for a quick start up and smoothest idle possible.
5. Adjust the carburetor settings, if necessary.
6. After the first 30 minutes of the engine running, set the ignition timing (see install ignition
section for timing specifications).
7. Drive the vehicle with varying speeds and loads on the engine for the first 30 miles. Be sure
not to use a lot of throttle or high RPM.
8. Run five or six medium-throttle accelerations to about 5,000 RPM (55 to 60 MPH), then
letting off in gear and coasting back down to 20 MPH.
9. Run a couple hard-throttle accelerations up to about 5000 RPM (55 to 60 MPH), then letting
off in gear and coasting back down to 20 MPH.
10. Change the oil and filter with 10w30SG oil and PF1218 AC Delco oil filter (PN 251605610
11. Drive the next 500 miles normally, without high RPM's (below 5,000 RPM), hard use, or
extended periods of high loading.
12. Change the oil and oil filter again.
13. Your engine is now ready for many happy cruising miles!

Took the words right out of my mouth.

Except SG rated oil is about two upgrades behind, and at Step 12 you change it to synthetic. Please, not Castrol, however.

Haha! You would pick up on that wouldn't you! So I'm dating myself, nothing new I guess. Maybe when I get some extra time I'll update it, however, I should check to see if GM has another list out now. It comes in handy now and again.

http://www.gmgoodwrench.com/crate_eng/startup.shtml has these words currently:

1.Always put safety first. If your car is on the ground, be sure the emergency brake is set, the wheels are chocked, and the transmission cannot fall into gear.
2.Be sure to check the engine's oil level and prime the oil system.
3.Run the engine between 2,000 and 2,500 RPMs, with no-load on the engine for the first 30 minutes.
4.Adjust the distributor timing roughly by hand for a quick start-up and the smoothest idle possible.
5.Adjust the carburetor settings, if necessary.
6.After the engine has been running for 30 minutes, set the ignition timing (see install ignition section for timing specifications).
7.Drive the vehicle with varying speeds and loads on the engine for the first 30 miles. Be sure not to use a lot of throttle or high RPMs.
8.Run five or six medium-throttle accelerations to about 5,000 RPMs (55 to 60 MPH), then let off in gear and coast back down to 20 MPH.
9.Run a couple hard-throttle accelerations up to about 5000 RPMs (55 to 60 MPH), then let off in gear and coast back down to 20 MPH.
10.Change the oil and filter with 10W30SG oil and PF1218 ACDelco oil filter (PN 251605610).
11.Drive the next 500 miles normally, without high RPMs (below 5,000 RPM), hard use, or extended periods of high loading.
12.Change the oil and oil filter again.
13.Your engine is now ready for many happy cruising miles.

Not much difference, still references "SG" oil, and Step 3 only applies to flat-tappet cams.
