Need help pulling a code. NOT 3rd GEN
its my moms 1995 gmc jimmy 4x4 with a 4.3 liter v-6. it has a 16 pin connector and i need to know how to read the trouble codes. she let it run HOT yesterday and it threw a code and it wont hardly run. it seems like it missing VERY bad. god i hope its not a head gasket. i just wanna see what code is gonna say before i check everything out. PLEASE HELP!!

You need some kind of scan tool, as the paperclip trick doesnt work.

You'd be surprised at the crap those things monitor these days. I spend $70 diagnostic fee on my 97 Montana to find out that I'm getting "random cylinder miss." Duh! I could have told the stupid computer that just by listening to the engine!
Turns out, it needed fuel injector cleaning and new plugs. Shop wanted $500 to do it .. eh, no thanks. Payed $80 for fuel injector cleaning and replaced the plugs myself, as well as the wires.
I don't know about your problem tho, just thinking that something serious might have happened to the engine and the computer is spitting out misfire codes. On the other hand, you may elect to spend a diag fee.
