What is Magnafluxed?
A few machine shop terms that i dont know. Im fixing to get a 350 reworked and i want to know what they are doing, how they are doing it, and what its purpose is.
Heres the questions.
What is magnafluxed?
What is shot peened?
Whats the deck height on a block and what does "decking the block do, or zero decking the block?
What are chamfered oil holes/cranks?
Thanks for any info.

Well when you chamfer an oil hole, you widen the opening.
Deck height, I believe, is when you shave just a little bit of metal off the top of the block, so that it is smooth and level so it will seal well with the heads.
That's all I know.

From pic that i have collected the chamfered oil holes look like your pic. But the hole opening out more like an oval. I figured the deck height is having the deck milled. Thanks

magnafluxed is a way of checking for cracks by magnitizing the block and sprinkling fine iron particals on it... the particals stick to any cracks and identify them, the deck hight is the distance from the crank centerline to the head surface, normaly the piston sits a verry small amount in the block, zero decking it is taking a small amount off the head surface of the block so the piston it flush with it, and decking the block is the same thing, and chanfering the crank is a waist of money, where they widen the opening to the oil holes in the crank

shot pein is a means of stress relieving, cleaning, deburring using of all things shot. application may be gravity, compressed air, or other methods. might be done in a blast cabinet or by hand. the shot may be of juts about any material, glass, steel, and ground up "clinkers" from coal fired power plants.
