What you are looking for is valve lash settings. There is a current thread on that subject right on this page. Make sure you do a search and read for a couple of hours first. There are a couple of ways to do it. Pick one and don't mix them up.

did you do a search on 'setting valve lash" ?

I'ts the same for all SBC's, All methods work. If you have a concern then voice it. Thats what folks are here for!

Search is much faster now that it's late and te gerbils don't have to run as fast to keep the board going.

LMFAO

So to make it easier. Put the rocker arm on the stud. (make sure it's on the spring, and the pushrod is under it properly) Put the washer thinger (i really dont know what this part is called) and then the bolt on the stud, and start threading it until you feel resistance (when you get it down to the rocker arm). After that turn it a 1/2 turn (or 180 degrees, same thing). When you start the car, after you have it all broken in (the cam atleast) set the valve lash until you cant hear the rockers ticking at all... dont over do it though, or you'll be binding the valves.

When you set the valve lash again (after the cam is broken in) do it w/ the valve covers off. Yes you will get oil sprayed at you, no it wont be that bad. Yes, it will be worth it in the end
