power window motor prob.....help urgent
i am replacing the power window motor in the drivers door. I have the motor in, and a large coiled spring feel out. where does it go? Also is there any tricks to get the motor to mesh with the sproket? I am having trouble with it also. Bloody handed Sat., windows suck

Good luck man, I put mine in myself and it was a PITA!! I hope you have a buddy helping. The "scissors" mechanism that assists in raising and lowering the window is spring loaded, so it could be part of that. On my '91, I just moved everything forward to the front bottom of the door where I could drill out the rivets that hold the motor on the "scissors" mechanism, then installed the motor.

I hacked a bigger hole to get my hand in at the lower front corner. The damn spring is what complexes me. I am doing it by myself, which only adds to the heartache. Any other suggestions are welcome.

Oh, and before I removed it, I put a nut & bolt with large washers on it in there to keep everything in place. (once you remove the motor the "scissors" will have no resistance against that spring, so you could in fact hack a finger off if you're not careful. I believe there's a tech article on doing this.)
