broken flexplate teeth

i just disovered that 2 teeth are broken clean off about 1/4 of a turn from each other on the flexplate. its a brand new jegs 153 tooth flexplate for 87 up. i'm using an lt1 starter and it looks like the clearance is good. when i turn the engine over it dosn't make any strange sounds for about 2/3 of the rotation then it makes a grinding noise like the clearance is off. could it be a bad flexplate making the noise or because of the 2 teeth broken off? what would cause teeth to get broken off like that?

well i looked at the flexplate while it was running and its defilitaly out of round. it moves up and down about 1/16 of an inch. i guess i'l be having to get a new one.

btw, do you think jegs will take it back since its a bad flexplate?

I would push really, really hard for a new flexplate and a new starter (for the mini-starter you, uh, broke with their bad flexplate).

There is no way a properly stamped and installed plate should run OOR.

That is something I would never expect, an oval flexplate. Bastards! Hope they replace the flexplate and starter. Demand it. Sucks that you have to drop the tranny over a defective part.

well i went to advance last night and got a new flexplate and put it in. it works good now but i'm still going to try to get my money back for the bad flexplate. and possibly do some thing about the starter.

if you look at the old flexplate you can see where it was getting real tight around where the 2 teeth were broken off.
