DOH! I nicked a cam bearing
When I installed my new cam in my new block it was pretty hard to turn. After talking with CompCams the suggested I Brillo pad the cam bearings to take the finish off and loosen up the cam. Great. I've done this and the cam has loosened up. In doing this I took the cam in and out of the block numerous times. Anyway on final assembly I realized I nicked one cam bearing and scraped another one. Should I completely panic, strip the block, and have new cam bearings pressed in or leave the cam in which turns pretty well now and think everything is OK?
Many thanks,
Glen Smith

Well you probally will get alot of mixed answers but personally I dont think it will do anything.... I know a guy who has built engines for 50 years and when I did this to mine he said not to worry, unless is was a rod or main scuff... Kevin

Don't worry about it, unless it was a deep scrape all the way across the bearing surface it will be ok.

Cool. Neither one is all the way across a bearing. Not even close really. Also neither one is near an oil passage. I think I will leave it like it is.
Thanks,

i've nicked a few over the years and use my pocket knife to remove the burr and smooth it out. if you use a cam installation tool, or cam handle or whatever they call it will help to keep from nicking the bearings.
