distributor hold down bolt stuck
I was going to advance the timing on my car but I cant get the hold down bolt out. I had a Checker auto parts distributor wrench and I snapped it in half!
Does any one have a proven method for removing a seized hold down bolt?

Get a Craftsman dizzy wrench and get a breaker bar with some leverage. No bolt can withstand a lil' bit of man-power

go to napa, i got a forged distributor wrech from them after i bent a autozone one in half, just twisted it, and it broke right off. But yea, forged wrench + breaker bar = solution

Spray some penetrating oil (PB Blaster or similar) on the bolt and let it set for a while, and then try another distributor wrench on it.

Well i just got it to turn. It took a 6 point u joint socket with a 12" ratchet.
I think i was the first person to ever adjust the timing on this car . I advanced it 4 degrees and it seems to run better, but I cant tell for sure because it pouring rain out

That's exactly the tool I always use... I tried a dist wrench once on my v6 and felt like a moron trying to line it up with the bolt- since then, as long as a regular socket will fit back there, I use a ratchet/extension/swivel/socket combination.
But that's just me

I remember that stupid bolt. *** I hated it, I was like Doward when I got that damn thing out holding the distributor like I pulled excalibur from the stone.
WHat I did, is when to sears and got a crescent wrench piece called a crow's foot. That sucker did the job.

I find turning the bolt in the proper direction always works better than the converse...
I have a two-piece distributor wrench (Craftsman, I think), 1/2" boxed on one end and 9/16" boxed on the other, with a 3/8" drive couplier in the middle. If needed, I can pull off the un-used end and attach a ratchet. I've only had to do it a couple of times.

I just put a stud in the manifold before I installed it, and use a nut to hold the clamp down. I've never had problems just using a regular 9/16 wrench on it before.
