Smoke on Sartup????What is it????

Recently when my car has been sitting for a few hours or over night it smokes on startup. I have a 1990 RS 305 TBI. The smoke is white with a blue tint (oil burning I think). When the car is warm it doens't smoke at all. My engine is as fresh as can be and only has 28,000 original miles on it. What could this be? Here are my mods
- 3" Hooker Cat-Back
- 14X3 Open element w/K&N with haf inch TBI spacer(turboCity)
- MSD coil, cap, rotor, wires
- Bosche 4+ Patinum plugs

If the car has been stored at all... which i assume it was due to the low mileage then your valve seals have probably dried and cracked.... it is a common problem with these cars and nothing serious... A shop will replace them for about 200. the parts cost 5 bucks.. Mine has been like this for a year now without any real trouble from it except the puff of blue at startup

That is a chevy trademark! The valve seals dry/wear out, causing a minute amount of oil to seep into the combustion chambers when the car has not been run in a while-like overnight. I purchased my '86 Z28 new and it started doing this with 30,xxx miles on it, it now has 152,000 and still runs strong. Don't worry about it and keep driving it!

I agree with Blackzee, "Chevy trademark" I had a 99 s10. less than 100 miles on it... it did that too.. nothing to worry about...

Totally normal behavior for one of these engines. It's caused by the valve guide seals leaking oil down the valve stems, where the intake vacuum can suck it into the motor. Think of it as the factory's way of assuring that the valve stems and guides get fresh lubricant occasionally.

Don't even bother trying to fix it. They wear out so fast if you fix it you'll be puffing smoke again on startup so soon you'll forget you even had it fixed. The 305's are especially notorious.
