For all 13 & 14 second cars with 700R4s....
I plan on taking my car to the strip as soon as I get some more miles on my rebuilt motor. I have a 700R4 transmission. I was wondering what gear you guys get up to in the quarter mile. Will it actually shift into 4th in a 13/14 second car, or do you cross the line in 3rd? Also, any guesses as to whether or not my car will see at least 13.99? Mods are listed in sig. ANY help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

You should be able to net some sub 14's with the 350 if it's built right and since you have 3.27 gears, you will have no problem holding 3rd gear in the 1/4 mile.
I have 4.10 gears and I'm right at redline when I cross over the finish line in 3rd.

-355 carb'd, nicely reworked '64 vette heads, 2500 stall, 4.10's, other small things.
-Alston SFC's, Eibach Pro-kit, Koni's all around
-100+ nitrous shot
-Cruising in style with leather and nice stereo.

Your 700R4 will not shift into 4th. Even on an open desert road. It's built not to, you can change that by modding it with an upshift sleeve kit. But you wouldn't want to on the strip anyway, that 4th gear is you overdrive and you don't use it in racing. And unless you have very tall rear gears you won't get the need for 4th gear anyways..

I almost trap In 2nd, actually.
I cross at 4 grand in 3rd after shifting out of 2nd at 6.

If you are ending in overdrive, you have the wrong rear end gears. You always want to end at the top of your 1:1 gear, which would be 3rd in the 700r4. I am at about 4000 in 3rd when I cross the line.

I would say that if you have the whole cared tuned up well, you should have no problem getting into the 13's. As for your tranny question, these guys are somewhat right IMO. For you, you should not get through 3rd, but your tranmission will shift into 4th at some point. To my knowledge, with using about 5 of these cars with 700's, the whole shifting into 4th thing is a little bit of a falicy. It seems some cars do and some cars don't, but it is more often than not how you have the kickdown cable adjusted. If you are moving along and you step down your car might do into 3rd and not come back into 4th but if you are steadly accelerating it certainly will. How do you think all these people can go over 125. Your trans and gears, assuming a normal tire, will top out at 128 in 3rd gear. So you would probably be running low 11's high 10's to get that. My suggestion is you should get yourself some sort of shift kit and a rachet shifter. Not only is it more fun to drive, but you will get faster ets, and prolonged tranny life, typically. Good luck.

When I had 2.73 a could pull all the way to the line in second at about 100 MPH. Not sure where I will be with the 3.42s but hoping it will be around 4000 for the reasons stated above.
