Need help with cyl. heads!!!!

You can see the engine package I currently have in my sig. It is good enough to beat a stock 2001 Z28 or T/A(did both today). But I really need better heads to take advantage of the rest of the motor. I would really like to use older GM castings that would boost power without work. Something pre-'86 so that I can use the RPM air-gap manifold with it. Can someone please tell me what castings to look for and how to identify them.

Mild Cam

Edelbrock Perf. manifold and Holley 750w/vac. sec.
GM HEI upgraded with Accel parts
TBI truck Heads
Badass 3" true dual exhaust.

Well...

Its really hard to Suggest **better** heads without knowing anything about your engine.

TBI truck heads, do you mean Vortech's ?

Mild cam, How Mild ? Can't be tooo Mild if your beating LS1's with competent drivers...

Truth is, the only "old" Gm casting you are going to have any luck with are the Camel Humps, and as we have run over again and again on this board, for the price they just arent worth it, You can get a MUCH better, newer head, For the same cost Thanks to New CNC porting techniques. The Camel humps are not going to flow incredibly well without alot of work, either.

you already have vortecs right? (they started putting them in in 96 TBI, casting number 906)

10239906...96-up...350.........."Vortec 5700", "L31", 64cc chamber,
170cc intake port, 1.94"/1.5" valves

There is really no better factory head. Think aftermarket. Edelbrock Performer rpms or TFS.

I would say nay to the older gm heads.
AHHH OH MY GOD WHY? you ask.
Well true old the older Gm heads have plenty of advantages and I love them but The new Gm performance heads "Jegs, #809-12558060" are only 219.99 new+ the 121.99 shinny valve cover factor. Cost wise the new gm heads are a better deal. If you find old camlebacks your probably looking 200$ to buy em 250+ for a good valve job "Not an, if it needs it only job" these are 30yo+ heads. There are only two manifold bolts that dont fit on the centerbolt heads but most AM makers give instructions on how to dremil them so they work.
The new heads are supposed to have a 20-40hp increase over older Gm performance heads this includes CB heads.
GL with what ever you decide!

Plus the old heads need hardened seats for unleaded. Add up all the work needed and trick flows sound like a better deal.

actually, there is a new intake from performance products that comes with inserts for the middle threads. One intake fits both head styles.

The heads that I currently have on it are the TBI truck heads that were on the '92 block, so they are not vortechs. Don't ask why I would put those on there, 'cause I didn't. I bought the engine after it was freshly rebuilt(no miles at all). The cam is a grind suited for a truck and I believe the lift is .451"int/exh or very close to it. I am on a tight budget as far as the car is concerned, that is why I need cheaper, better flowing heads. The car doesn't have any getup and go 'til about 45mph or 3500rpm. I need some help figuring out how to get more bottom end without sacrifcing too much topend.

?????? In confused. If you are indeed useing TBI truck heads your manifold is already ported for the 2 bolts that are a problem.
The heads should have center bolt valve covers right? So if they are 92 truck heads than the only logical choice is the gm perf heads. GM "12558060" Your local GM dealer can get these for you. Now if the cam was designed for a truck its probably an "MTC-1"
208in 214ex @.50. This is a very tq oriented truck cam but it was designed for 3.08 and up gears with No stall converter recomended.
From what I can read in your sig you should have plenty of power before 3500rpm. I dunno maybe you would benifit from a lower numericly higher rear end setup. But hey try the heads 219.99 isnt a bad deal especialy if you dont need to get valve covers.
