Valve spring damper broken
what would cause not the spring, but the flat wire damper to break?
I have a broken one which is causing a nasty noise, but otherwise the outer spring is fine and the car is still driving fine.
Any ideas?
the relevant info:
i have close to .5 lift, the geometry is pretty good as far as i can tell from eyeballing the rocker on the valve. Ive increased the pushrod slots, and had the valve guides cut down. I *think* these are kmotion springs, not positive though...

Rocker geometry, push rod slots, cutting the guide down, and all that, have nothing to do with spring failure. Rocker, push rod, stud, cam lobe, valve guide, or various other thing; but not the valve spring. The reason that springs fail, is because they are inadequate. Approach that possibility from both sides (that the application is too intense for the spring, or that the spring is insufficient for the application). Although, in the end, the cure is the same: get some real springs, instead of bargain-bin garbage like K-Motion.
