Goodwrench 260hp 350, 12k mi., 750 bucks, good deal?

Goodwrench 350 crate engine, claimed 260 hp, has edelbrock performer intake and 600cfm carb, larger cam than stock, 12,000 miles, kids asking 750 bucks carb to pan
I know I could get other engines for around the same price or even less, some with 0 miles, i dunno if i should get this engine or not
I plan on vortec heads, intake, holley 750 carb, cam.......maybe some nitrous...
Opinions?

You'd be getting a shortblock w/cam et al, tin, intake manifold, and carb.

If that's worth $750 to you, then get it. Any other engine/shortblock w/o cam, intake, or carb would have to be pretty good to be better than that. (We won't talk about the $1200 I'm putting into a 350 shortblock...)

Is a motor like that worth 750 bucks with that mileage? Should i just shop around or what? What sorta quality are the goodwrench motors?

For $750 you are getting a complete, drop it in and run it engine? Sounds good to me. No, it's not a hi po screamer, but compared to some worn out 305 it would feel like one.

What is it going in and what do you expect out of it?

You talk about Vortec heads and nitrous- keep in mind the Goodwrench 350 does I believe have a cast rotating assembly so I wouldn't spray a whole lot at it. But swapping the 76cc heads that come on it to some 64cc chamber Vortecs would bump the compression up a bit and wake it up a lot.

oh and my goals for the car.....umm...
its my daily driver, gotta be somewhat reliable, cant be something crazy, would love to get OK gas mileage, but would also like to see mid 13's w/o nitrous, 12.xx's w/ nitrous.....
but as long as i'm in the mid 13's this summer i think i'll be okay ;-)

Well I am not a Nitrous expert, so you may want to ask on the power adder board, but I think you could get away with it as long as you had the timing etc. set up to take the shot.

Meanwhile, you can toss your old tired 350 on the stand and build it up to handle the spray if you grenade the other engine.

Well it's all possible if you get it dialed in. Try and find out what the specs on the cam in it are. Look around the boards, see what others are running.

MW66nova is running a 9.5:1 or so mild cammed carbed 305 with nothing more exotic than a good exhaust, converter and gears in a bare bones sport coupe and getting 13.75 out of it.

Car: 83 Z28
Engine: vortec 305 for now
Transmission: 5 speed
Recently a magazine took a boneyard 350, put a cam in it designed for N2O, an intake and headers. They kept putting the squeeze to it until they got just under 400hp. Then they screwed up and purged the N2O just off idle and caved in a couple of pistons. They felt that they could've gone over 400hp with that setup. I used to have the link to it, it was either superchevy or chevyhiperformance.

I think that's a fairly decent deal.

If you purchase the Vortecs and stuff you can sell off the heads and intake that are on it now to help offset the cost some.

You should get some great numbers with the Goodwrench with a good cam and Vortecs thrown on it. As stated they'll have the added bonus of bumping the compression up into a range more acceptable.

Car Craft did a Goodwrench buildup including going the Vortec route in one article and got great results. I've got the Goodwrench short block with Vortecs and a XE262 cam and I'm pretty happy with it.
