Use an old tennis shoe as long as the air cleaner will hold it from falling out the other way.
Really, just trickle charge it until someone is around. You have plenty of time. It will be quicker for finding the cause.
I used to use starting fluid. Just use a little bit whlie being careful. Spray it down inside and look away if you're worried about back fire. It's better than losing something in the engine. I've seen people disassemble thier engine over something like this.

Uhh... 83_camaro_83, I forget whether you said this or not, but is it like cranking and then just not catching, or what? Did you pump the gas a few times before cranking and then floor it while trying to get it to crank?

That sucks. Take it to like walmart or something (the battery, not the whole car) and get them to charge it, maybe?

When its that cold out gasoline just doesn;t want to vapourize well. No vapourization= no combustion.
Can "flood" the motor easily. One way to start a flooded pesky cold motor is with propane. propane is a gas ( its already vapourized) and burns nice and smooth even in a car motor. Starts up much easier on real cold days too.
Get a propane torch and shoot some propane down the carbs barrels while holding open the throttles. Close the throttles, get your head out of the carb and start it up.

Can you use a battery from another car?
Ohh, I know! Push it out onto the road and sit there with the hood up until someone stops!

LOL dude the closest road is the highway
Some driver
"what the hell, theres some kid pushing his camaro onto the highway....Now hes merging!! without signaling!!"
and i cant boost from parents for 2 reasons
1: they arent home
2: they both have new cars and apparently you can fry the computer in them by boosting from them

At least you have a reason to stay inside.
Put it on the charger and it will be waiting in the morning.

Now you know what to buy and carry in your trunk to be prepared for another -40C morning, next time you're at the big CTC store in Calgary. Way better than starting fluid and way cheaper than a CTC boost.
if the motor will turn over, the propane will get it started with no damage. If the fuel line from the tank to the carb is frozen it won;t stay running long. Gas line antifreeze will cure that (methanol).

Oh. Then I dunno. If you take the battery out, then it shouldnt harm anything..?
You need one of these.... See that crank just under the radiator?
That's what you need.
Oh and props on the potato cannon. I have one myself, but it is pneumatic. Put a key lime through a detergent box at fifty feet, not even fully pressured.

Of course that doesn't help you now either.
