Engine coolant Boiling over after 30 mins of moderate driving. Why?

Hey guys,

I have this problem with my 86 TA. Today I drove it around for about 30 mins not pushing it hard at all. The temp was around 90 farenheit and when I pulled into my friends driveway she told me my car was leaking green fluid. I popped the hood and surely most of my engine coolant totally boiled out!!!

My question is what could have caused this? My car has the stock thermostat 195o I think. My guess is that my fan is either broken or my thermostat is broken and is not turning the fan on. Has anybody ever had this problem and what can I do to fix this?

BTW My car was at 260o (in the red zone) when I looked at the engine temp after I stopped. I don't think this is normal.

Somebody please HELP me!!!

Where did it come out from? You probably just have a leak, the pressure that builds up from the circulation of hot coolant can cause many 'a' hose to pop. It may be a heater hose, in my experience those tend to go out a lot, but they are an easy fix.

Really sucks when your car pukes in front of women

Anyhow.....there are a few things to check.

1st- Make sure that the airdam under the nose of the car is still there and mounted correctly.

2nd- If you have dual electric cooling fans make sure that they come one. If not suspect a bad relay ($6 at parts store)

3rd- Make sure your timing is set correctly. Sometimes retarded timing or overly advanced timing can make the temp go up.

Last, but not least...it will not hurt to switch to a cooler stat. Get a 160*, 170*, or 180*.

Oh...another thing....get a fan switch that turns the fans on earlier. I rigged my fans so both come on at the same time. My PROM turns them on @ 175* and off @ 160. I wired them together so both come on at the same time. Helped immensely (sp?)

One more, check between the radiator and AC condensor for debris. I've seen plastic bags and trash get up in there, and prevent airflow thru the radiator.

Thanks for the replys guys,

I am a complete idiot. I forgot that I took the air dam off the night before to fix it up a little, and it was early in the morining, so I just drove off. No wonder my car was about to explode, it wasn't getting any air at all. Sorry for wasting your time.
