World Industies Torquer Heads?

I was thinking about having my heads worked on because my valve guides are messed, then I come across an add for the World Industries Torquer heads. They cost only around $400. Would these work well with my LB9 305tpi? With a price that low why would I even rebuild the stock heads? Anyone got em?
thanks

85,

World Products makes a head for the 305 with the necessarily smaller valve sizes. The World S/R Torquer 305 has 1.94"/1.50" valves, 58cc combustion chambers, and 170cc intake port volume. The chamber size is stock, the runner volume is larger, and the intake valve is 0.100" larger than the stock valve (about the largest you can squeeze into a 305 unless you're very crafty). The S/R 305 heads I've seen advertised are all cast iron, not aluminum. I would hesitate installing 350 heads on a 305 due to the possibility for valve interference. The $400.00 price is likely for stripped heads. Complete heads with valves and springs are usually around $800.00.

Are they worth the money, or would I be better off spending it on something else? My car ran a 15.4@89mph, I am looking to improve that before next year.
thanks

The Torquers are great heads compared to stock. Get the 305 Torquers. They are like stated above, smaller chambers, etc. For a 350, get the S/R Torquers or go all the way for the Sportsman II's. World Products makes a great aftermarket sets of heads.

Good luck!

I spent a good bit of time corresponding with Competition Products about these heads. The price is about $650 assembled with shipping (at least shipping to Colorado). That is the best price I've seen from anyone for those heads. Everything I've heard is that they're worth it, especially if you have to spend $400 on stock heads anyway.

The 305 heads are S/R Torquers, and therefore higher priced than "regular" Torquers.

Pop in a better cam while you're at it to take advantage of the better heads.

True, they are S/R Torquers, but there is S/R Torquers and S/R Torquer 305's....just when ordering he needs to know there is a difference. Check them out at http://worldcastings.com/
Just clearing the cloud....but $650 assembled and shipping is a great price.

I got it backwards. There are S/R's ("stock replacement"), and S/R Torquers. The 305 heads are S/R Torquers only, even though the valves are only 1.94/1.50. So, it is the higher price.

I just got a new Jegs catalog today. They say "not torquers" for the 305 heads. That's wrong, but it's still the higher price.

Beefy89, I assume that's for a pair and doesn't include shipping. I also asked for better springs (standard not good for over .500 lift). And, again, the 305 heads are sold as Torquers, so the S/R price doesn't apply.

I think we'd all agree that they're the heads to use.

Car: 1986 Iroc Camaro

woah, The latest issue of "Camaro Performers" did a build up of a 1985 IROC 305 TPI engine.

All they did was install these World heads, but it gave them like 60-80 more horsepower as i recall, but it looked like it places the max HP at a much higher than stock 5,000 RPM. Sounds worth it just for that!

I also remember seeing a Cam in summit, for TPI 305 camaros, which gave it "40 more horsepower". Think if i added both of these mods to my 1986 TPI "LB9" engine, i would be in the range of 300 horses? that isn't too bad, i might be able to enjoy the 305 untill i get the 350 that way too.

Also, anyone know how much it would typicaly cost to have a shop install the heads and new cam?

Thanks guys!
