Valve adjustment
I have a problem with my engine, its a 1988 305 tpi. I removed the heads and intake and now im putting everything back.
I have tried to adjust the valves according to my Haynes manual but i cant get it to work properly. The engine runs on 5 cylinders, cyl number 2,6 and 8 are dead. The all have fuel and spark so i guess it something wrong with the valve-adjustment.
I someone have done this please tell me how you did it because im going nuts. I have tried so many times now that i almost want to quit.

with the piston at TDC on the hole in question adjust the rocker nut while spining the push rod. when you feel drag on the push rod or it stop spinning you should be close. another quick method would be to measure from the top of the stud to nut on one you know is adjusted correctly and replicate it on the problem cylinders. my guess is you have them too tight so backing them all off a couple 3 turns might help and then allow you to run the valves with the engine running.

as ede suggested loosen them all a turn or three then start the engine let it clatter and adjust each one till it stops clattering then take it another half turn

Ok, so i put the cylinger in TDC and then i can adjust the intake and exhaust valve and then put the next cylinder in TDC and repeat the procedure ?
Should i start with the nr one cylinder or does it matter?
