4th gen gas tank swap
okay, i know this can be done flyinlow has done the swap. my question is what kind of connect do you need/were needed to hook up the tank? is the 4th gen pump assembly used or the original? im leaning towards wanting to use the 4th gen one since i know my old T/As assembly had stock rubber hoses right outside of the gas tank...are there any size andjustments or is it relatively the same? my main reasons for considering this swap is that the tank is plastic and its some weight loss. any comments?

Car: 1986 IROC-Z
Engine: 355
Transmission: TH700R4
Axle/Gears: 3.42 28 spline zexel
Possible?
I've also read some lengthy threads here and am still not sure on a few issues.
1. Does the 3rd gen carb'ed pick up fit in the 4th gen tank? If not can I suck fuel with my mechanical pump through the electric? I am not worried about the pickup differences(resistance).
2. I have an '86 IROC. I've read about people having trouble getting the tank out around the axle. My tank is not located anywhere near the aexle. There is a cross brace(4 bolts) and a heat shield in the way. Does the tank need to come out at some weird angle that makes it hit the axle?
Thanks for any help/pointers.

The fuel tank on the camaro is a pain in the A$$ to get out. You practically have to jack the back of the car a mile high to get it out, almost completely drop the axle to the ground (leave the lower control arms bolted up THATS IT). Then it is a matter of playing twister with the fuel tank to get it out of that hole the tube is in, which is the hardest part I have come across on my car. Fight it for almost an hour and you will get the hint. Of course I am skipping some steps, there are many articles on here that list the entire process, just gotta search.
