How do I identify my 350 Chevy
I have a 350 chevy 2 bolt mains, I know that its the post 1987 roller motor.I want to know the history of this engine and its origin. Is there a website? or woul i have to contact general motors to find lout where this engine came from. Im building a 383 strokerwhat do you advise as buying preformance parts? should i mention thats its the roller motor when i order parts for it? On the rear of the block this number is displayed: 140 93 63 8.
I purposley bought the two bolt main , so I can install the 4 bolt stlayed cap. Is that recommended?

14093638...350...87-95...2 or 4...Roller or flat tappet cam
one-piece rear seal
got that off of www.mortec.com
as for the 383 kit there are many many of them to choose from out there...
as for the splayed caps they are alot stronger than even a factory 4 bolt set up and are very reliable...but kinda pricy to have installed

Car: yy wife, crazy.
Engine: 350, Vortecs, 650DP
Transmission: TH-350
Axle/Gears: 8.5", 3.42
It's a 350 block. Plain and simple. Other than the pad in front of the right cylinder head you'll never know the origin of the block.
It's a common 350 roller block that was used in everything from a Caprice, Silverado, Camaro, Corvette, G-20 van, etc.
You can try www.Mortec.com/castnum.htm
http://www.mortec.com/location.htm
http://www.mortec.com/locatpg2.htm
I'm gonna guess that you'll need to at least know if it came from a car, truck or a van in order to really find anything out.

I have that same block casting as you do, in my basement and having yet to be decked the stamping is still there.
V1121TPD
According to the third link I gave you...
The "V" means it was assembled (not cast) in Flint, MI.
The "11" means Nov.
The "21" means the 21st of Nov.
The "TPD" has something to do with the type of engine, transmission and vehicle the engine was for.
I know what it came from but only because I helped pull it.
It came from a 1990 Chevy HD C2500 ext. cab w/auto trans. Which obviously means it was an LO5. But for some reason it's a 4-bolt main block. Perhaps it's because it came from a heavy duty 3/4 ton?
On the back mine looks like this one, which yours should also.
Obviously it's a 5.7L GM block, but I don't know what "G" after the "L" means, nor the "SGI" underneath (which my block has both identical to that one).
Off to the right is the date the block was cast. Mine says "K168" which means (according to the Mortec.com) ...
"K" = November
"16" = The 16th of Nov.
"8" = the last digit in the year of that decade. Obviously it was cast in 1988.
As you may also notice, my block was assembled either 5 days after it was cast or 1 yr and 5 days then sat for around a year before it was put into the truck.
Also, toward the top of the pic, where there's a big "3", mine has a "5". I have no idea what that means either.

As far as I have been told, Fbodys got 2 bolt rollers, trucks and vettes got 4 bolts. All vettes got 4 bolts, but only some trucks. But, as far as the truth, I have seen "vette"engines with 2 bolts. I was there when the engine was pulled, but that doesnt mean it was the original engine either.
