Help rewiring tach...

I have a autometer sport comp tach on the car and it has been acting silly lately. The needle will jump back to zero and stay there 90% of the time as if it has no feed from the Mallory HyFire 4 box that I run it into. The mallory box has a tach terminal that you run the green tach feed wire into. I have determined that I have a good ground and no shorts on the wires so I'm going to try and eliminate the ignition box as a problem. What I want to do is splice into the factory tach feed to see if the tach will work properly. What wire is the factory tach wire and will this work with the autometer gauge? Thanks.

It should be the brown plug on the distibuter cap, or the one thats closest to the front of the car. Thats how i wired mine and it works fine.
