Engine eating starters
A while ago, i posted about a fairly new starter that had cracked the bousing which bots onto the engine block.
different suggestions was posted, including the possibility of wrong bolts being used, and shimming.
so, i bought a new starter, new bolts, shimmed the thing as best i could (used 2 shims), it worked fine (tho, it made a bit of a odd noise sometimes) never got around to checking into that, because, today the damn housing split again..
might of course just have been a bad starter, but it seems a bit odd that it should happen twice in such a short time..
any clues or experiences from anyone here?
car is an '86 Camaro Z28 with a 305 TPI .
thanks in advance,

How does the starter ring on the flexplate look?
Did you check clearance in more than one spot on the flexplate? In other words, did you rotate the engine 1/3 turn and recheck the clearance, rotate another 1/3 and recheck?
